Suicide Prevention: Tips, Signs & Resources

Suicide is a serious concern, but there are steps you can take to help prevent it. Whether you're struggling with suicidal thoughts or you're concerned about someone you care about, understanding the signs and knowing what to do can make a difference.

Here are some tips and signs to look out for:

For Individuals Struggling with Suicidal Thoughts:

  • Reach out for help: Talk to someone you trust, such as a friend, family member, or mental health professional. You are not alone, and help is available.
  • Avoid drugs and alcohol: These substances can worsen feelings of depression and increase the risk of suicide.
  • Create a safety plan: Identify people you can reach out to during a crisis, as well as activities that can help distract you from negative thoughts.

For Loved Ones:

  • Be aware of the signs: Look out for changes in behavior, such as withdrawal from social activities, talking about feeling hopeless, or giving away possessions.
  • Listen without judgment: If someone opens up to you about their suicidal thoughts, listen to them with empathy and offer support. Avoid minimizing their feelings or trying to solve their problems.
  • Encourage professional help: Offer to help them find a mental health professional or accompany them to appointments.

Common Signs of Suicide Risk:

  • Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain.
  • Withdrawing from activities and isolating oneself.
  • Increased use of alcohol or drugs.
  • Talking about being a burden to others.
  • Expressing feelings of hopelessness or having no reason to live.

Remember: Your story is not done, you hold the pen to write the next chapter. Don't let the hard days win! Suicide is preventable, and there is always hope. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call emergency services or a suicide hotline for help.

Emerge From The Chaos As Your Best Self: 40 Journal Prompts To Start Your Healing Journey

Thank you for your interest in emerging from the chaos of trauma. At Emerge From The Chaos, we believe that journaling is a powerful tool for self-reflection, healing, and personal growth. It provides a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, allowing you to gain insights into your inner world and develop a deeper understanding of yourself. Particularly for individuals healing from generational trauma, childhood PTSD, abuse, neglect, and general chaos that this turbulent world can cause. Journaling can be a transformative practice and will also help you have a record of the things that you have gone through and how you are healing. Looking back on this record is imperative to help your continued healing.

One of the key benefits of journaling is its ability to help you process and release emotions. By putting your thoughts and feelings onto paper, you can express yourself in a way that feels cathartic and freeing. This can be especially beneficial for those who have experienced trauma, as it allows them to externalize their internal struggles and begin the healing process. When I first started journaling it was simply a way to get the thoughts out of my head so I could sleep at night, now it has become a way to dive deeper into the reasons why I am feeling certain things and what lesson I should be learning from it.

Additionally, journaling can help you identify and challenge negative beliefs about yourself. Through writing, you can explore the origins of these beliefs and begin to replace them with more positive and empowering narratives. This process of self-exploration can lead to increased self-awareness and self-compassion, which are essential components of healing. As you start to understand the reasons why you feel things and the lessons you are supposed to learn, you move closer to healing that trauma.

Furthermore, journaling can serve as a tool for setting intentions and envisioning your ideal future. By writing about your goals, dreams, and aspirations, you can clarify your vision and take concrete steps towards creating the life you desire. This practice can be particularly powerful for individuals seeking to break generational patterns of trauma and create a new legacy of healing and resilience. As we grow we lose our old self, and we must take time to thank that old self for the trials they lived for us, but more than that, we must mourn that person because they are not the same person we have become. Giving gratitude to your old self for doing the hard things and living the hard experiences so you can become a greater person is essential to your growth both spiritually and emotionally.

In this journal, you will find a series of prompts designed to guide you on your healing journey. Each prompt is meant to inspire introspection, reflection, and self-discovery. As you engage with these prompts, allow yourself to be open and vulnerable. Remember that healing is a process, and journaling can be a valuable companion on your path to wholeness. Use these prompts to help yourself step out of the box that your trauma put you in, and into your best self!
